We keep things going with a new “jam band music” segment featuring two extended songs: “Grayrigg” by Lotus, and a live version of “Kill Devil Falls” by Phish, taking from this summer’s tour. Husband/wife guitar duo Rävenwolf will bring their funky, folksy, acoustic, bluesy rock and roll back to Centre Stage (703 Chetco Ave.) for a 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. dinner show on Saturday, July 17. The price is $15 for dinner and show, or just $5 for the show. This is the second time the rocking, harmonizing couple has played at this intimate venue and anticipation is running high. I was fortunate enough to catch Rävenwolf’s concert in May and was blown away by their versatility and overall musicianship. This time they hope to have their regular percussionist with them, which will elevate the music to new heights. The Washington-based acoustic musicians Jamey and Heather Bilyeu work magic with just two guitars and dual vocals to defy musical boundaries, switching from gritty blues to rock to country. Their overall style reminded me of ’60s and ’70s artists Jefferson Airplane, Heart, CSNY and Bonnie Raitt. And, while they’re more than happy to cover these artists’ songs, their originals are just as strong. If you are a fan of blues, rock and roll and acoustic folk, don’t miss Rävenwolf.

Meanwhile, here is an excerpt of Ravinwolf’s concert at Centre Stage in May.

The husband/wife guitar duo Rävenwolf, scheduled to play in Brookings at Centre Stage Thursday (April 20), arrived in Curry County early to play a set Sunday at the Gold Beach Wine and Art Festival. After listening to the first half of their set, and to their CD “Buttons and Freedom,” I’m eagerly awaiting their Brookings gig.
Seattle-based acoustic musicians Jamey and Heather Bilyeu work magic with just two guitars and dual vocals to defy musical boundaries, switching from gritty blues to rock to country. Their overall style reminded me of ’60s and ’70s artists Jefferson Airplane, Heart, CSNY and Bonnie Raitt. And, while they’re more than happy to cover these artists’ songs, their originals are just as strong.
Guitarist Jamey Bilyeu called once described his music as “funky, folksy, eclectic, organic bluesy rock and roll.” Yep, that about covers it.
Jamey’s gravelly voice is a perfect match to his firey fretwork on blues-based songs. Heather is no slouch in the guitar department but her vocals soar – part Ann Wilson (Heart), part Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane). Their harmonies are stellar.
At one point during their Sunday gig, the band performed a bluesy cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason,” and it rocked.
Rävinwolf will play at 7 p.m. Thursday at Centre Stage, 703 Chetco Ave. Tickets are $10 at the door, $8 in advance.
Have a listen to some of their music below, taken from their album “Buttons and Freedom.” More music and video concert footage can be found at www.ravinwolf.com.
Raquy and the Cavemen will be performing at the Harbor Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 5. Tickets are $5. The center is located in the Brookings Harbor shopping center. Proceeds from snack bar sales will benefit the theater.
